ENERGY
DEPARTMENT

Through state, federal and private funds,
the energy department is able to provide eligible households with assistance
in meeting their home heating and energy costs. Referral and counseling
services are also available to provide information regarding energy
conservation and consumption, help with termination of utility services.
Weatherization of homes and apartments, and furnace repair and replacement
are available to those meeting eligibility requirements.

FINANCE
DEPARTMENT
The Finance Department is under the direction of the Director of Administrative Services and is responsible for the preparation and administration of all Federal and State funded programs. The department is responsible for processing Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, the maintenance of all fringe benefits for the employees, and Information Technology functions for the Agency. The Finance Department is responsible for the monitoring of expenditures for budgetary compliance. The Director of Administrative Services is also responsible for the short and long range financial planning and handles all Human Resource duties for the Agency.

A variety of programs are administered by the Social Service Staff. This department serves economically disadvantaged families and individuals of all ages. Services include counseling, advocacy and support services. Information and referral services cover a variety of needs, including childcare resources, health, food, furniture, clothing, employment assistance, shelter assistance, money management, and State DSS services.

Services include advocacy, employment
assistance, as well as case management in such areas as counseling, income
management, childcare issues, and housing.
HUSKY - HEALTHCARE FOR UNINSURED KIDS AND YOUTH:

Case Management service and application
assistance are provided to eligible clients needing HUSKY insurance and/or
Healthy Start services for pregnant women. Support, information and
referral services are provided. Prenatal workshops are provided by the
Bristol Hospital Exchange Club Parent and Child Center.

These services are funded by the State Department of Social Services through the Hartford Health Department. It offers Prenatal Care focused on health-related case management services to eligible pregnant women and follows the family until the child is age 3. The overall goals of this initiative are to reduce infant mortality and morbidity and low birth weight in Connecticut; and to increase and improve health care coverage/ insurance and access for children and eligible pregnant women.
EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAM

Provides basic education combined with pre-vocational training to eligible youths and adults with barriers to employment. The training will include workshops in basic skills, computer literacy, customer service, and employability skills for qualifying 16 to 24 year-old youths and adults.
EVICTION PREVENTION PROGRAM

This program helps families and individuals who are facing eviction or foreclosure and may become homeless. The program provides tenants and landlords with an opportunity to have their disputes mediated and resolved without need for legal action.
TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM/BEYOND SHELTER

This program is in partnership with the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness and the Connecticut Department of Social Services. This program prevents the recurrence of homelessness by providing up to one year of follow up services and transitional housing programs. GRANDPARENTS RAISING GRAND CHILDREN

Provides assistance to grandparents 60 years of age and older who have primary responsibility for raising their grandchildren. Assistance is offered to help families find needed services, to file applications for desired programs. Funding comes from the North Central Area Agency on Aging (NCAAA) – Title III of the Older Americans Act.

Basic homemaking services such as light
housekeeping, laundry, shopping assistance, and cooking are provided to
economically disadvantaged elderly, and/or disabled residents. Respite care
is also available for caregivers. Cases are accepted under a variety of
funding sources including the North Central area Agency on Aging (NCAAA) -
Title III of the Older Americans Act, the CT Department of Social Services
and CT Community Care, Inc. Services can also be provided on a private pay
basis.

RSVP is a service program which is
federally funded by the Corporation for the National and Community Service.
The Greater Bristol RSVP is a member agency of the United Way of West
Central Connecticut. It is dedicated to matching the talents of citizens 55
years of age and older with the community service needs of local nonprofit
organization and agencies.

Elderly, handicapped, and economically
disadvantaged Bristol residents who have no access to private transportation
are offered Dial-A-Ride services within the Bristol city limits between 9:00
A.M. and 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. To reserve a ride, please call
at least 24 hours in advance. Funding is provided by the City of Bristol
and the North Central Area Agency on Aging (NCAAA) – Title III of the Older
Americans Act.
